Our Weekend

My big computer went down last week. So I have only been able to upload a few pictures. So today it is soccer pic's and tomorrow will be baseball pics. We are keeping our fingers crossed the the other peter will be up and running later this week.

We spent both Friday and Saturday out of town watch baseball and soccer games. Lucky for us Steve was home so he got to go as well. First with Soccer, They won one and lost one. I saw something that I have never seen Megan do. The ball went between her legs for a goal. I do have pictures but I promised not to post them.

Andrew's Visit

DSCF3200
I am going backward in time a little bit. Andrew was here for his spring break the week before Easter. We where really looking forward to seeing him and had a great time. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate so we could not do much outside. Both of Anthony's game's had been canceled so he didn't even get to see him play.

We had a good visit however. Steve took a day off so we could drive to Idaho and watch one of Anthony's baseball games.

This was what we encountered.

Spring time in Eastern Oregon. Andrew was fine with the snow until the car started sliding. He said "should we put chains on?" Steve's typical answer, "Naaaa, it's not that bad." We ended up turning around and going back home. It didn't matter anyway, the game had been canceled.

Andrew we miss, come back soon.

Soccer

041710 029
Spring Select soccer has started. Megan is happy to be back on the field again. I am glad too, Steve and I love to watch her play.

This year is off with a bang. First off, they beat a team that they have never beaten. Second, Megan earned her first "yellow card" and the teams first. This means that she was warned that she did something really bad.

Let me explain, she was playing forward and getting really aggressive. She ran to the goal to score and the goalie put her hands on the ball. After the goalie has her hands on the ball you are not allowed to kick it. Megan says, that the goalie then dropped the ball and Megan kick it in. Well, the balled bounced off the goalies face then went in. This earned her a yellow card and they tied the game instead of winning.

The next practice, the coach talked about how bad calls do happen. Several people did see the goalie drop the ball including the coach from the other team. Megan then received MVP for the game and will be the team captain for the next game.

Let me say, Megan herself being a goalie, never intended to hurt this girl. She did apologize and make sure she was ok. However, she is the first to get a yellow card on her team and is enjoying the notoriety. My only regret, I was not there to get a picture.

It's been almost a month

I know that it's been all most a month, but lots of things are going on here.

Ok, I have been busy but that's not really the reason I haven't been posting. It's really that rotten friend of Megan's. His name is Michael, and it's all his fault. It started with Facebook. Michael sent me a link to a new game called "Kingdom of Camalot". I really don't need another game to play on Facebook. Believe, I am hooked on a couple of them.

But this game is different. You build a kingdoms, join alliances and talk to other crazy people just like me. You use words like M'lady and M'lord. My favorite part: you build your might and destroy kingdoms that have crossed my path. Ha Ha Ha Ha (evil laugh). I have will have to admit, I love the battle. The upside, Megan plays with me and we are having a blast. The downside, I haven't cooked a decent meal in two weeks. I don't consider grilled cheese sandwiches a good meal, however the kids do.

So I must go, I have already spent to much time away from my kingdom. I have a barbarian camp near me that must be destroyed and I am preparing for war with another alliance. I am not sure when I will post again. Please take my advice, If you value your time, DON'T GO NEAR THIS GAME.

Spring Time In Eastern Oregon

All week, beautiful and sunny. We had snow in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, that has changed to rain. Who cares you say. It's spring break, stay inside, enjoy. It is also the beginning of baseball. Anthony has games both Monday and Tuesday. It probably won't rain, it will be just cold and windy.

I know it doesn't sound like it, but I am really not complaining. I love this kind of weather. It also means that summer is just around the corner. The kids and I are all on spring break. We follow the public school schedule with Jason. It makes that much easier. I am looking forward to next year. Jason will be studying American History and his books look like fun. I took a peek at what I would teach Anthony and Megan if I where teaching them. Both would be in American history as well, but Anthony would be doing government. That would be so fun to work with him on, but he is totally not interested. Both Anthony's and Megan's list of books that they would read are some of my favorites. Little do they know that I am going to make them read them anyway. HaHa "It's good to be the king." Sorry a quote from a Mel Brooks movie, and one of my favorite quotes. Oh and this one (using my best English accent) "I'M THE KING OF ENGLAND, DO HAS I COMMAND!" from the Tudors, shhhh I really don't watch that.

Anyway, not sure how I got from weather to the Tudors. We don't have any real big plans for spring break. We are going to make a trip to Boise. Check out the zoo, birds of prey and some other things. Maybe even a trip to Costco on our way home. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it won't be raining like it did last year.

Home School Update

I haven't done any home school updates or posted any pictures for that matter. My big computer is working now and I once again have access to my pictures and photo editing software. My laptop works really well, it's jut that the big computer uploads so much faster.

DSCF3064 Here is a picture of Jason learning how batteries work. Last weeks science project.

I, like most homeschoolers, worry that I am not teaching him well enough. I have been loosely teaching geography this year. How important is it for a 3rd grader to learn all the countries in the world? This year he has learned all the continents, oceans, that there are over 30,000 islands in Oceania. Brazil is the biggest country in South America and Chile the longest. He knows the routes of Columbus and Magellan took. I have a big markable world map in my kitchen, so he knows where an old classmate of mine lives in Australia and my cousin in Bangladesh. We watched "Night at the Museum," the other night and he asked "Mom, what island is that statue from?" "Easter Island." This is good for a third grader right? I will admit that I learned most of these places too this year.

DSCF3067
I really enjoyed listening to Jason discuss Athena's statue, with Megan and Amanda, the sculptor also made the statue of Zeus, which is one of the wonders of the world, and that he was executed. Jason can tell you why. He can tell you who King Henry the VIII is and who his children are. Why they called Queen Mary "bloody Mary" and Queen Elizabeth I the "virgin queen". I didn't teach him that. He knows that they are the Tudors and the next rulers where the Stuart's. He can also tell you about the Showtime show "The Tudors" which I didn't turn off when I fell asleep on night. NOT KID APPROPRIATE. I am still having to answer a lot of questions after that one. I am not surprised that he really likes this time period. Anything that involves beheading is going to spark a little interest. He also rolls his eyes, each time I mention another war involving the Catholics and Protestants.

He does really well in math and I can usually leave him unsupervised while he does his worksheets. However, this is sometimes what he comes up with.
DSCF3069
The answers are all correct, it just takes a little while to correct them.

Ok, this is probably more then you ever wanted to know about my homeschooling adventure. I get asked a lot of questions. Mostly from people who don't agree with the whole homeschool idea. The most asked questions is "Don't you worry your not teaching him enough?" Yes, I do. But then I look over the list of things he has learned and I think, he is doing fine.

I really believe this conversation is what education is all about.

"Mom, what was that lady's name that flew the airplane?"
"Amelia Earhart."
"That's her. Can we go to the library today and get a book about her?"
