My Weekend

It was one of those weekends when all three kids had to be in different places at the same time.  Two of the kids had to be in different states.  And of course, Steve was working.  To be fair, he is taking next weekend off so he can go with us to Megan's soccer game.

Megan traveled to Washington again for a soccer game.  I can not sing the praises of her wonderful coaches enough.  They packed up my child again and lugged her to the game with them.  I swear this is the last weekend for that.  I will be making the rest of them.  They won their game 16 - 0.  And with lots of drama.  The referee finally called the game early to end the other teams misery.  I would normally agree however, in this league, to win first place they total up all the goals scored.  The most goals scored wins the league.  The referee not only called the game early but reduced the score to 12 - 0.  That could cost the girls the league title.  Last season La Grande tied for first place only to get second because of  total goals scored.  So you can see the controversy.

Jason was in Idaho this weekend at a karate tournament. He is really improving.  He didn't think he would like it but as it turns out he does.  I am so used to sitting all day sometimes two at wrestling tournaments, that these are a breeze.  They put the kids in their groups and fight until they are done. It takes about 30 minutes tops.  We stayed a few more hours to watch the instructors fight.  We had 7 fighters and took home 6 trophy's.  Jason took home 2nd place.  I couldn't be more happy for him.

The third kid stayed home to get ready for his senior prom. I rushed back from Idaho to be there to see him go.  He and Kagan came back to the house for this picture and so Steve could see them.  I can't believe we are a month away from graduation.  Yes, I shed a tear or two.

It's Friday

And it is cold today.  Megan is getting ready to head out of town with her team tonight.  She has a game late tomorrow.  I had some other things planned on Saturday so I am unable to make this trip.  I am so glad for her soccer coach's who are willing to fill their cars and spend the night with these kids.  I am not sure I am that brave.

Jason and I don't typically do school on Fridays.  We instead will load up and spend time at the library.  Today I will be making the final decisions for next years school plan.  I pieced together my curriculum last year and I don't think I want to do that again.  Son Light is expensive but well worth the price.  I love their curriculum and all their books.  However, not going to do their science program or Bible study.  I have an idea of what I would like to cover next year in science.  Our local library has become very supportive of us  homeschoolers.  They have set up a whole section in the library geared to us.  They not only have great books but teaching tools as well.

So much of the Homeschool curriculum out there is very Christian.  While I don't have a problem with the Christian materials, I have stumbled across a couple of books in the Son Light curriculum that are anti-Catholic.  So if I am going to include Bible study, I might as well teach him what our faith believes.  And I am not crazy about buying books that go against some of my beliefs and really not crazy about buying anything that I am not going to use.  Our priest at the church loves it when Jason comes to him with questions. What could be a better source?

What I really love about homeschooling, is that I am learning right along with Jason.  Well....and that we take Fridays off.  I really like that part.

Friends

DSC_3385

We miss these guys.  Megan is traveling over 2 hours out of town for soccer games.  I love it because it takes us back to a town we used to live in a few years ago.  I didn't realize it before but I miss it there.  We drove around and saw our old house, the school were the kids went to.  The schools they would be going to if we where still there.  My favorite grocery store, the park where we spent lots of time and the baseball/soccer fields where we lived most of the time.

But what we miss most of all is our friends.  It was fun just to sit and watch these guys.  It took about 10 minutes for everyone to warm up to each other again.  But then it was like we had never left.

Hopefully we will be seeing them again in a couple of weeks.

Bowling

Our little town decided to close down our bowling alley.  So, if you want to go and bowl a couple of games it's off to the nearest town with a bowling alley.  That trip takes 45 minutes no matter which way you head on the highway.

When we usually make these trips we combine it with something else.  So on this day we bowled, visited the college Anthony would like to attend, took pictures, shopped and had dinner.

During this bowling trip I discovered a few things.

This girl can bowl and text at the same time.

Fun Day

The kids had a couple of days off last week for conferences. We decided it was the perfect opportunity to go and spend some family time together. Bowling sounded like fun, however we don't have a bowling alley anymore. So, off to a nearby town (45 minutes away) to the nearest bowling alley. DSC_3443

What goes with bowling better then nachos. I would like to take this moment to tell you that I am a horrible bowler. But I beat Anthony once!!!!

Smile for the camera.

Jason, Please open your eyes!!!

Arggggghhhhh, Megan!!!!!!  I did only say Jason.

We also decided while we where in this town, to stop by the college that Anthony is thinking about attending next year. He is going into the EMT program but also interested in graphic design. I thing he will be great at either one of them. But he still hasn't finished designing my logo yet. He also is working on the FFA trailer. He is designing the logo's and lettering that will go on their brand new, really cool trailer.

I also decided to give Anthony's senior portraits one last try.  I don't know why, I just wasn't crazy about the ones we had.  He and I just didn't agree on which one would go into the graduation announcements. I let him have the last word on his yearbook but I just didn't like that picture enough.  The boy just won't smile.

I was also looking for something with a little more color. His other pictures just looked so gray. The weather was gray and he was wearing gray. This time I told him just to grab a shirt he really likes and lets see what we get. And I really like what we got.

This is the picture going in his announcements.

He is even smiling.
